A full day on laboratory automation and high-throughput screening — talks, special interest groups, a poster session, and plenty of time to compare notes. Focused on the methods and workflows, shared openly between the people who run the systems.

A candid forum for laboratory automation.
CphLAN brings together super-users and managers in laboratory automation and high-throughput screening, from across industry and academia. We meet to compare notes on the methods, systems and workflows — the honest version, focused on how things are built and run rather than the specific research behind them.
This is our 14th meeting. We’ve gathered twice a year — spring and autumn — since 2019.
The day is built around open discussion and a high degree of participation — in the Q&As, the Special Interest Groups and over the breaks. Talks focus on the thinking behind new automation and screening workflows and the lessons learned along the way, while lunch, coffee and the poster session leave plenty of room to network.
You’re a member, not just an attendee
CphLAN is a not-for-profit, member-led association — there’s no company behind it, just the people who take part. Registering for a meeting makes you a member of the association for 12 months, at no extra cost. Membership is what keeps the network independent: members set the direction and are welcome at the general meeting, where decisions about CphLAN are made. It’s included with your ticket — there’s nothing else you need to do.
No sponsor — no vendors in the room.
We’re trying out a format where every second meeting has a sponsor. The autumn meeting has no sponsor — the day is for the members, with no vendors in the room.
A mentor lunch over the break.
We’re trying something new over the lunch break: an optional mentor lunch. When you register, you can say whether you’d like to take part as a mentor, as a mentee, or not at all — it’s entirely up to you.
We’ll do our best to pair mentors and mentees over lunch based on who signs up. We can’t promise a match for everyone — it depends on the mix on the day — and it’s meant as a one-off introduction over lunch, though you’re of course free to stay in touch afterwards if it clicks.

Small-group sessions on the topics you choose.
Participants split into groups of 5–9 for the two SIG sessions. There’s no cap per topic — popular topics simply form more groups, and if a topic is quiet you’ll be offered another. Sign up for two different topics, or the same one twice to meet more people who share it.
Tips & Tricks — Equipment
Where you can get input on how to pipette the second liquid phase on your Tecan, create a custom user dialog box on a Biomek, or be reminded what that one Hamilton HSL library was called. Pick a brand or equipment function:

Data Automation
How to handle challenging data outputs or data in regulated environments — with the option to discuss attempts at closed-loop optimisation. Pick a topic:

User involvement / training
For the super-users working with onboarding new users — and how to ensure they don’t break the system.
Sustainability
The place to share tips and tricks on reducing the environmental footprint in the automated laboratory.
